The very same Democrats who are endorsing a massive minimum wage hike — to $15 — are the same ones who pay their interns much less than that or nothing at all.
Free Beacon reports:
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) declared Thursday that Democrats would pass a $15 minimum wage in the “first 100 hours” if they retake the House in 2018.
Pelosi made the remarks alongside fellow Democratic leaders, according to Politico.
If “we win the election,” Pelosi told the gathered audience, “in the first 100 hours we will pass a $15 minimum wage.”
However, the Employment Policies Institute is not letting them get away with such duplicitous rhetoric.
“While these senators are willing to buck the economic experts and back a $15 minimum wage, most are unwilling to pay their interns even the current minimum wage,” EPI managing director Michael Saltsman told InsideSources. “Perhaps they understand that a pay requirement for internships would reduce the number of opportunities available. The exact same dynamic applies in the private sector.”
Ironically, the Congressional Budget Office — which Democrats are using to attempt to dismantle the Republican’s Obamacare repeal bill — has yet to analyze the impact of a $15 federal minimum wage, but they found that a lower $10.10 minimum wage would kill 500,000 jobs, 57 percent of which belong to women.
The hypocrisy needs to end — Democrats need to pay “their fair share.”
