Throughout most of the world, contraband and illegal goods fall somewhere in the category of “drugs” and “guns.”
But not in Venezuela.
And not under socialism.
Two pictures surfaced of a Venezuelan man, whose face was covered by his lifted shirt, showing multiple packages of a certain substance taped around his stomach and back — and it wasn’t drugs.
It was powdered milk. Yes, you read that right — this man was “smuggling” powdered milk.
Forbes notes the sad stated of affairs in Venezuela, which would drive a man to smuggle powdered milk, of all things:
“Venezuela has faced shortages in toilet paper, diapers and milk (and more) forcing more than 6,000 people to cross the border in Colombia to purchase necessities. The country had to ration its electricity use because of severe power shortages. It also could no longer afford to print its own money.
The IMF forecasts Venezuela’s inflation rate to exceed 1,600% at the end of 2017.”
“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” — Winston Churchill
