On Thursday, at least 13 were killed as a van drove plowed through a crowd of tourists in Barcelona, Spain.
The local Spanish police have declared this incident an act of terror.
Officials said two vans were possibly involved after a second suspect van was located.
Immediately, First Lady Melania Trump responded, sending her “thoughts and prayers” on Thursday.
“Thoughts and prayers to #Barcelona,” the first lady tweeted, the first condolence statement from the White House.

Graphic video from the scene showed bodies lying on the ground after the vehicle drove through Barcelona’s historic Las Ramblas district, a heavily pedestrian area. Police said they are investigating the incident as terrorism.
A White House official said just prior to the first lady’s tweet that White House chief of staff John Kelly was “aware of the situation and keeping the president abreast.”
