President Donald Trump promised Americans he would “build that wall” on the southern border.
And his Republican colleagues finally stepped up to the plate and secured him that major political victory he needed.
On Friday, Democrat Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham demanded a House floor vote that would have added a prohibition to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on any Pentagon spending to build the border wall.
“The only way this body can guarantee that Trump cannot use Department of Defense funds to construct the border wall is to put that prohibition in the bill explicitly,” Grisham stated.
However, Republicans countered with a knockout blow that prevented the Democrats’ obstructionist move.
Republican Rep. Mac Thornberry spoke immediately after Grisham, saying the House needs to quickly approve the fiscal 2018 authorization bill — he received a standing ovation for his powerful speech and President Trump’s NDAA was passed moments later, which includes funding for a wall.
