The GOP is ready to terminate the Environmental Protection Agency.
A group of Republicans, spearheaded by freshman Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, have released a piece of legislation that would completely close the 15,000+ employee department.
The entire bill is just a single page in length.
It’s only section, “Termination of the Environmental Protection Agency,” has no details presented except for the date on which the EPA would be completely dismantled — Dec. 31, 2018.
“The EPA has been doing some drastic things,” Gaetz told Northwest Florida Daily News earlier this month. “They have exceeded their original mission substantially under both Republican and Democratic presidents and violated the sovereignty of the states. I think we need to start fresh.”
The legislation has three co-sponsors: Reps. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga, the Washington Examiner reports.
Massie submitted a bill last week with a very similar format — except the Department of Education was the target for elimination.
